Jaya Parva Introduction
Jaya Parva Introduction
We cannot, normally, find this Jaya Parva in any available versions of Mahabharata.
Jaya (जय) in Sanskrit indicates victory.
According to my understanding, ṛṣi (sage) Kṛṣṇadvaipāyana or popularly known Vyasa ('compiler, arranger') composed originally the Jayasaṃhita, the story of Kauravas and Pandavas and closing with the victory of Pandavas over Kauravas and the coronation of Yudhisthira as the emperor.
In view of subsequent expansions made to the original story of Jayasaṃhita of Kṛṣṇa dvaipāyana by his disciples and additional stories added by authors that came in subsequent generations, this original victory concept of Jayasaṃhita was lost sight of.
Hence, a new parva, ie., Jayaparva has been introduced by me, by combining Shalya Parva, Sauptika Parva and StrI Parvas and concluding with the coronation of Yudhisthira, available in Āśvamēdhika Parva.
The Śānti Parva to Svargārōhaṇa Parvas (covering 23,000+ shlokas) were altogether removed, as they were not part of original Jayasaṃhita but subsequently added, according to my understanding
