Karṇa Parva Introduction
With the fall of Droṇa on the 15th day of the Mahabharata war, Karṇa was made the Commander-in-Chief of the army of the Kauravas.
Karṇa led the army for 2 days, ie., on 16th and 17th day of the war. And, he was killed on the 17th day of the war by Arjuna in a one-to-one combat.
The following events took place during Karṇa’s leadership:
1. No major events took place on 16th day of the war, except elimination of minor Kings, viz., Kshemadhurti by Bhima, Pandya, Vinda and Anuvinda by Aśvatthāmā,
2. On the 17th day of the war, at the request of Karṇa, Śalya agrees to be become his charioteer
3. Karṇa was defeated by Bhima
4. Elimination of 10,000 Samsaptkas by Arjuna
5. Bhima kills Duḥśāsana
6. Vrishasena was killed
7. One-to-one combat between Arjuna and Karṇa and Arjuna kills Karṇa
