Virāṭaparva Introduction

In the game of dice, Yudhisthira was defeated and was forced to proceed to the Forest for spending 12 years of period there and 1 year to be spent incognito, failing which the Pandavas are supposed to spend another term of 12 years of period in the Forest and 1 year to be spent incognito.

Virāṭaparva covers the 1 year spent by Pandavas incognito.

·       Pandavas and Draupadi set out to work for 1 year incognito, using pseudonyms Jaya, Jayanta, Vijaya, Jayatsena, and Jayatvala respectively, in Matsya province under the King Virata and Draupadi using pseudonym Sairandri.

·       Kichaka, the Commander-in-Chief of King Virata, lusts for Draupadi and harasses her.  Bhima kills him in the night

·       Pandavas, except Arjuna, helps King Virata in a war against King Susharma

·       After completion of 1 year lived incognito, Pandavas disclose their identity to King Virata

 

·       Marriage of Abhimanyu, the son of Subhadra and Arjuna, was performed with Uttara, the daughter of King Virata and Sudheshna.
